Booking a Boudoir session is half the battle…. KUDDOS to you!
Now, you’re facing with the overwhelming feeling of how to prepare for your upcoming boudoir photoshoot! There are a lot of things you can do or you can avoid to ensure the photoshoot and the images will be a huge success. If your photographer is experienced she will provide you with a lot of useful tips, but if she doesn’t here are some of my recommendations for you:
1/ Think outside of the box
Sexy doesn’t always mean sexy lingerie. It can also mean ripped jeans with no top on, messy hair and a loose sweater and knee socks, or just a simple white sheet with no clothes under.
Here is a fun Pinterest Board I have created for my clients regarding “Outside of the Box Outfits”.
2/ Skin Preparation
Avoid the Sun and new skin products the week of your session. With Boudoir sessions you’re showing a lot of skin, so you want to avoid any last minute rashes, peeling skin & tan lines! It is a lot of work for photographers to even out skin tones…. There is really no magic button for it. Depending on the retouching skill level of the photographer, that may result in less than ideal images, or some photographers may even charge a bit extra. Also please get waxed at least 3 days before the shoot. The skin can get irritated after waxing, so to avoid red bumps and rashes, it’s best to give your skin the time to heal.
3/ Unique props
If this a gift for a special someone, think of ways you can “include” them in ways that will be extra special for them. Bring their favorite shirt, wear their race bike gear, favorite sports jersey etc.
4/ Eat before your shoot
I know you’re probably doing everything in your power to lose some weight for the big day. That is all great, but on the day you must fuel yourself. Boudoir sessions can take a long time. You need to have the energy that last… you’ll be amazed, those poses will be like a workout:)
5/ Don’t forget to have fun!
It’s probably not often you do an experience like this. Treat yourself to some shopping and pampering prior to your shoot and most importantly, enjoy the session. You deserve it! In my experience the more effort & preparation my clients put into their session the less stressful and more fun you’ll have.
