But as a gift to myself ( after another failed attempt at online dating) I decided to go for it and get some professional photos taken. I found Edina and she was outgoing and welcoming from the very start, working with her has been the easiest and most comfortable. We were able to discuss what I was looking for and we set up a time. I HAD SO MUCH FUN at my session. She is a natural with people and enjoys her passion for photography. I would like to share my story about how I found Edina and why I chose Beyoutiful Portraits. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bile duct cancer in May 2015. The disease is aggressive, and I have become pretty familiar with how hospitals work. In (insert month, I can't remember) I woke up in a hospital room in Portland, my first admission to a hospital outside my native Hood River, with a very clear vision of something that had never occurred to me before. I needed a photographer. A good one. A REALLY good one. Not just technically good; but someone who was able to understand the limitations of my condition and work with empathy and love. And I needed a really good make-up / hair artist to go with her. What I saw in my head was a set of beautiful, professional images of ME, my wonderful sisters-in-law, my beloved husband and, most especially,my beautiful, 10 year old daughter. I didn't realize it at first, but what I wanted to create was a Legacy: a collection of very special images that would be shared and passed on from generation to generation, and that show me as the beautiful, STRONG woman I am inside, despite of (or maybe even because of) my illness. So my next step, of course, was to google photographers. I can't remember the search terms I used, but Edina's site came right in at the top. I checked out her website and blog and was incredibly impressed by the images, stories, information - and, more importantly, her vision of capturing the inner strength and beauty of her subjects. She works with make-up / hair artists who she knows and trusts and who share her vision and professionalism, and together they draw out the magic in a gentle, fun and trusting environment. There is no worry about being photogenic here - Edina and her make-up artist know exactly what to do to bring out the inner goddess in all of us, which is why she puts such an emphasis on getting to know her clients and their stories. Women choose Edina for many reasons - her professionalism, vast experience, attention to detail, quality of work - but nearly everyone has a story, and it is that story that Edina is able to bring out and celebrate in pictures in a way that is difficult to explain. It is a true gift, a calling. This is not just a job for Edina, it is her vocation and she puts her heart and soul into her work. My story is just one of many that Edina could tell you (and she shares many of them on her website and blog - check it out), but there are many reasons why women should invest in a professional make-up and photography session for posperity. And my story was by no means all doom and gloom - on the contrary, we had several dress changes (Edina has some lovely outfits and accessories available for you to play with and use in the photo shoot if you like), and my daughter and I had some glammer pictures taken as well as more candid shots. Women choose this as a gift for a loved one; a Mother's Day treat, a celebration of a daughter's Birthday - there are many reasons why this is such a wonderful gift. It is even something that I would urge YOU to do now, even if you think you don't deserve it, that it is too expensive, or for any of the other many excuses that we make up to deny ourselves - because that's what women do. Edina made the whole session fun and very special for everyone - little treats were laid out for us in the studio, even some sparkly wine to help with the relaxation process! It took several hours to complete the whole shoot, and that is testimony to the dedication that Edina has for her work. And the real work begins after the initial shoot - many hours are spent selecting images, touching up, finishing, and actually printing the finished works for presentation to her clients. That is yet another unique aspect of what Edina does - a couple of weeks after the shoot the client is invited to a reveal in her studio, where the most precious works of art (make no mistake, these are not just pictures), are displayed in ready-to-go format. You choose just the images you want - even if that is just the most memorable one (but it is REALLY difficult not to purchase a package!) Being at my reveal, confronted my the undeniable truth that I am a STRONG, CONFIDENT and BEAUTIFUL WOMAN - was a very moving experience - one that Edina is used to experiencing (I know because there was a box of Kleenex on the table :)) Edina totally immerses herself in the people she is working with - the way she captures and records the inner strength of her subjects is purely magical, transformational; even verging on spiritual. --------------------- Faith”
